Star wars

Luke found himself in this series through many things. He realized that he can not defeat his family members and that they are in his life for a reason. Luke became the jeti that he was born to be without anyone making him. He took his destany in his hands and did something very well with it.

Anakin found himself through his heros journey by acknowledging that he is not evil. In the end, when he was fighting with his son, he switched from evil to good. Everybody thought that this was impossible but Luke knew his dad would not let him die. Anakin knew that his son would never go to the darkside and that made him realize he didn't want to be there either.

Community Service

Community Service as defined is an act done by an individual to benefit the local community. Some people do this by volunteering and others are forced into in because they have someone who is related to them running it. No matter how they get involved, these acts are so helpful. There are so many events that our community puts on for the locals, which need people to donate there time to help run. Such events around Cottonwood are Old Fashion Days and Shasta Section Opening and Closing Contest. There are also little things like asking for Christmas tree donations for needy families that can be used as community service.

One of the things that I did for my twenty hours was help Alexis Hermann's mom with Old Fashion Days. Her mom going through chemo needed a lot of helpers. Old Fashion Days is held the weekend after Thanksgiving on Front Street in Cottonwood. At this particular event, Santa comes and talks to all the little children. I was mainly in charge of making sure the little kids didn't crowd around him. Also I had to make sure that the kids stayed in a line and didn't cut other children. We all know how long the lines to see Santa are. After Santa made his rounds with the children, I went around to the vendors who were out in the sun all day to make sure they had enough water. If they didn't I would go get them some, which was normally the case. Old Fashion Days ended up being an event to remember.

The other things that happened this year that I ended up helping at was the Shasta Section Opening and Closing Contest for FFA. This is were a bunch of schools come from around the northern section of our FFA. They come and compete in the Opening and Closing contest. But to be able to hold this contest, we have to set up the room where they are going to compete in and also a big holding room. In the rooms with the judges we had to make sure there were name tags and places for the other teams to sit and watch. I also had to make sure the judges had enough water and food to keep them comfortable. I also took the teams to the rooms that hey needed to compete in. Not only that but I had to serve pizza and drinks to all of the people that attended. This event took me a very long time to accomplish, however I enjoyed being around everyone.

Another thing that I have done with FFA was going and getting Christmas trees with Jacob to decorate at the December FFA meeting. For this we went around Cottonwood, Anderson, and Redding to see if different tree lots would donate trees for us to decorate and give to needy families. Most of the lots were very helpful and gave us trees, however we understood because of the terrible economy. This took me a lot of time because we had to travel to the different lots and some closed before we could get there so we had to go on a different day.

Doing these kind acts, I learned that people appreciate the work that others do. In today's society people are lazy, so they like it when they don't have to do anything. I learned that I am very responsible and people tend to put jobs on me even if I am over loaded. I have been able to multi task way better and listen to more than one person at a time. It is a very good skill that I learned while doing my community service.

Pakistan Schooling

The schools in pakistan are not really educational anyways. They need to make a school based directly on the educational purposes, not just teaching to koran. When the united states is giving pakistan money to help them out, they need to put it to good use instead of just throwing it away. It would be a good idea for them to invest there money in the litteracy in there countrymen and women. The women need to know how to read and write too, its not right to just let the men have that privelege.

Online publishing

This tragic story of Nikki is a prime example of the online explicity. Her story is only known to those who have read the article or those who like grusome things. I dont think that her pictures should be allowed to be published every where online. But how are you gonna fix it. It is so hard to figure out who is on a computer especially if it is a public computer. But i do think that they should try and those police officers should have been in more troble then they got into.
If it was my family member I would be really mad. Especially since at the sight they didn't want the family members to see yet it goes public within that week. I would have taken the same action that her family did. People need to know that even though they are on the web they need to be cautious of what they are putting out there for everyone to see.
I think our internet should be filtered a little bit. These photos could scare almost anyone. I don't know how they could filter them but we should. This is not a good image for anyone to be seeing.

Earth Day

I think that the writer is somewhat correct. I don't think that people being eco friendly is going to have a big effect on the earth if they are only concious about it for one day. People are not even remembering about it. I think that we do not acknowldge the day until someone says something to them. The only people who normally remember that it is earth day are the enviromentalist. But i think we should still have the day, just like we have mothers day. To recognize the beauty's of the earth.
I did know that today was Earth Day, only because i looked at a calander this morning. I think that it is completely under played. Its not going to effect the earth if everyone only cares for one day. It needs to be a continuous cycle of people caring.
Today we actually do nothing to protect the earth.

Things not to learn in school

Out of the eight things to not learn in high school, I have learned none. I am one of the select few who has not been taking my education lightly. I understand that to reach my goals, I have to accomplish something in high school. It doesn't matter to me what my peers are thinking about how they are barely gonna get by. Most of the time, I like to do things to the best of my ability. The only time that I do not do the best thing for me is when I completely forget about something thats due, or every once and awhile I dont do certain assignments. I think it could be the fact that I was enrolled in a lot of the college prep classes which taught all of the students that we can not just sit by passively through our free education. My parents have also always taught me that I have to be an above average student to not get in trouble at home. Those are the things that have taught me not to just sit by and let my high school years pass by!

Economic Problems

This hard economic time has brought families closer or tear them apart. The recession that we are currently in is making families think about what they spend on a daily basis. They are making budgets and sticking to them. People are trying desperately to stay above the water in the debt they have to repay while also trying to feed their families. All america wants is a break.
My family is dealing with the economy like any other family. My parents are trying to buy a house and because the economy is so low, they are getting better deals on them and have a lower payment on the loan they will need. Along with that, they are sticking to a budget with all the entertainment things they do and staying in a lot more. Which isn't a problem for them, they like to be home.
I haven't stopt doing anything really. The only thing is i do not spend a lot of money are other people like i used to. They don't like it but its what has to be done in order for me to get through. I used to pay for people when i took them any where but now i have to draw the line.

Piracy

If the U.S. follows a similar law to the one in Sweden, it would affect the way teenagers recieved a lot of there entertainment. In today's society, people have gotten used to being able to retrieve what they want by illegal downloading. In the U.S. today, there are certain sites that allow people to download music or movies when they feel like it. There are a couple of site that i have been told of that you can download movies before they are even released from the theatres.
Personally, if they decided to enforce this law, it wouldn't affect me that much at all. The only thing I do that is close is burning cds, but i would gladly go and buy them or even get a membership to a downloading site like itunes. I think that it would be a good idea to make the people pay for the entertainment they are recieving for free.
Intellectual property is something that someone has written or copyrighted that is their property for ever. Even if they die, there children then inherit it. I think it is so important because they introduced a new idea or song or movie that made other people want to see it. Its so important to give the person who wrote it what they deserve for making such a piece of art. It would be like stealing the mona lisa. Intellectual property needs to be recognized by everyone, and have them know that it wasn't there idea but someone elses. People need to give credit where it is due.

Michael Vick

The celebraties today, are very publicized. They are shown for their accomplishments and when they do something wrong, it get the most news paper pages then any other event. When someone who is well known does something like dog fighting, they should be punished just as much. Celebraties get too much slack because they are a public figure and looked upon by many children that they need to get punished for the wrong doing that they have done.
Even though these public figures are highly looked upon, they need to learn their lesson just like everyone else does. If we as american fail to show the children that people get in trouble for what they do wrong, then they will think that they can conspire behind their parents back and not recieve consicounses. Public figures need to set example for the young teenagers that look at them for inspiration to do better. When they fail to set a good example, then they fail as a role model to everyone in the nation.
These wrong doing they have done need to be publically punished and needs to be fair to everyone. It is not fair to let someone like michael vick off when a normal person would have to go to jail if they did dog fighting. We can not give them more of an advantage then they already have on us normal people. Give them what they deserve.
Yet i do not believe that they should be taken from their profession when they worked so hard to achieve it. It is just like someone who went to school and got a degree, if they go to jail they can come back and work in their desired area as long as they didn't do something too bad. Therefore I think that public figures should be able to too. They shouldn't be kicked out of their dreams because they did one thing wrong.
That is how i feel about public wrong doings. Give them what they should get, then let them do what ever they want for their profession.

Obama

The foreign policy in place today, is not a very good one. Bush has not implemented a very strong policy or helped us over in the other countries. Therefore, Obama is going to try to reduce the foreign wars and or conflicts that we have. even though some of his decisions might be frowned upon by washington, i think that they will help the U.S. out in the long hall.

Immigrants

Throughout the years, illegal immigrants have been coming into America looking for a brighter future. But what they found, was less paying jobs for more hard work. There children were recieving an education but they not the top notch like the american kids are. People are now wondering why? Is it because of their culture, language, or lack of education.
Immigrants come and put their kids in school hoping they will recieve a better education, so they don't have to work as hard as they had to. Yet they find that they are segregated and seems not to be recieving the same education. These kids deserve to have to same exact education that our children will recieve. The immigrant students are going to be the next generation of workers, if we do not educate them to be what we need in our society, then how do we expect to succeed.
Another issue is the culture. Most people in the US do not speak english. I believe that we should have two major languages, spanish and english. It would seperate the need to use different languages for certain things. By doing this, the students wouldn't have to learn a new language to go to school and it would make the language aspect not so different then it is today.
A way to make the immigrant students feel better and give tehm more education would be to just put those students in normal classes. If they succeed then they should be there. but if they do not suceed, then put them in a lower class.

Stem Cell Research

I think that States should be able to oppose the federal government on stem cell research. The embryonic cells that are used aren't fully developed, therefore the people who argue that it would be killing a baby are wrong. In the article it says, " the people who belive that a single cell embryo is a person then you are looking for any opportunity you can to make an arguement." This explains that the embryo's used, wouldn't be like killing a person. Most of the time the embryo's used are from people who have decided to have an abortion. Making this research the smae as any other type.
States individually, should be able to decided for there own beliefs if this research should be allowed or not. There is no way that the nation could decided for everybody in this nation.

Newspaper

Considering the latest reductions in the work force at the newspapers, I think that the newspapers articles will be what suffers. I know that elderly people really enjoy reading the news and not watching it, so they will be the people who actually get upset. The paper is a good read, but nobody in todays age like to read. Therefor, i think that the newspaper will be an online resource as well as on the nightly news.
Personally, I don't enjoy watching or reading the news. But the majority of the news I get from word of mouth. Some though I actually watch the news on channel seven with my parents, because I have nothing better to do.
I wouldn't miss the newspapers if they were gone, but I would miss hearing about the news from people who actually do read it. It would be a waste of peoples talent if the journalism profession was gone too, because a lot of talented people are starting to come out of college and would be great. But other than trying to save peoples jobs, I would not miss it at all.

It describes how they interact differently with their siblings and invertly their parents because they have a feeling of loss and that no one wants them anymore. It also describes how different age groups can tell the difference in their parents attitudes and emotions. Plus this article tells the parents that they need to keep in touch with the children and also how they should tell the child.

This article is a lot like the first one. But it tells me that the children involved can become depressed, and possibly need counseling. The read lets people know that that there is going to be a change in behavoir and attitude. The parents will notice a change in the childs views of things. A lot of children become involved in drugs or alcohol when this happens. Not only that but the children change there attitudes.

Summary of what i have learned....
April Graham
Mrs. Sutter
English 4/Period 4
23 March 2009
My research paper is about the effect of divorce on children and how it can be prevented. Divorce is a wide known action to many people in this world. There has been blogs written about it, newspaper articles, and countless many researches done about the effect of it. People need to be educated about the way they can affect the people around them. Not only that but it can effect the educational attainment, job stability, income, emotional health, and drug use in the family.
Parents have the hardest time trying to keep their emotions from truly showing in front of their kids. This is only helpful when the child is little. If the child is in grade school and understand the meaning of loss, they will need more help then that. The best way for parents to keep the child’s attitude the way it always is, is for them to communicate with the other parent instead of having the child talk for them. It only takes a brief phone call, text, or email to effectively communicate with the other parent involve. It will save their kids a lot of hurt.
Children whose parents have legally been separated are increasing in the numbers of victims of abuse and neglect. These children feel like they have lost something dear to them. They tend to want to do anything as long as someone wont leave them. This emotional side effect causes them to not care what the other people think. They are more willing to get in a relationship with someone who is abusive, because they think they deserve what they are getting. They first thought it was their fault their parents got divorced, so they will continue to think that they are a burden to the community. Therefore making the child dangerous to the people around them.
The people involved in a divorce tend to depress their emotions. They are just looking for something to make them happy again. So as soon as someone offers them a drug or medication that will do that for them, they are addicted. Teenagers who are in the middle of a divorce at their house, will be more than willing to start up an addiction. This is a dangerous thing. They need to be taught how to control their emotions, without the help of drugs.
These children can also demonstrate a learning capacity, performing poorly than the peers. They are also more likely to have to repeat one of their classes or will have a higher drop out rate. Considering the child is having a mental breakdown on the inside, they do not understand the teachings of simple things. They are not concerned with what is being taught but rather how their peers see them. Children involved in a divorce, need to be kept up with their studies. Make sure they are doing their homework along with studying for major things.
None of these effects happens to every child that has divorced parents, however they are affected in serious ways. There is no way we could predict the way the divorce is going to have on the child or the society, but we can try to prevent some of the more serious matters from happening.

Research Paper

I want to write about obesity, because I think that it is something that people should be aware about.
I also wouldnt mind writing about marriage and divorce because i think that there is a link between the two.
writing about love wouldnt be so bad either.

California's economy

Considering that this is the second time that california has been financially hurting, I dont think that our state will be able to make a quick comeback. For California to survive, the state needs to make cuts and look at the budget more closely. If we werent spending money foolishly then we wouldnt have this crisis. Another thing is that california has the largest population, which means that it has more people to pay with disability, unemployment, and all of those other federally funded expenses.
I think that in order for our state to be a foundation for peoples futures, we need to be sound as a nation and then as a state. If our nation isn't able to help out our state, when its in need, then there are bigger issues to deal with. But i do agree that we have to establish a budget and actually stick to it.

Selling Organs

I don't think that people should be able to sell there organs. I think that it is moral wrong. Why should they get a payment for something that they should do anyways. Giving an organ away would save someones life. Isnt that payment enough.
I can see it as an easy buck, but there is no reason to have to get paid for it. Most people give organs because they know the person or they have some relation with them, but why can't a complete stranger so they same, without payment. I think that the single best thing in life is knowing that you did something to help out the life of someone else.
Eventually, we will make it so that strangers can help our someone else without a large pay off. I dont believe that people should be able to do that.

Obama's inaugural address

According to President Obama's inaugural address, this is a "new era of responsibility as nothing is so defining of character as difficult times." This part of his speech can be looked at nationally, locally, and personally.
This new era so to speek is the difficult times we are going through as a nation. You can see this happening in the news. There are a lot of car dealerships going bankrupt, circuit city, and clothing shops. These big corporations are not just financed locally, they are a nation wide business which means that there other stores could possibly help them out if they are recieving business. Yet none of the large corporations, which have been around a long time, are finding that they can keep on going on through this recession. Another point, is that California's state employees might not recieve a check for this month. Meaning that nationally we are going to have to find a way to provide money for this state. Its defining how are nation is handling this. Which frankly, I think Obama is the man to help us out of this rut.
Locally, we are having the same issues. A lot of local business are going out of business because they werent planning on having nobody come and shop around. There are a lot of foreclosures and people going bankrupt. This is showing that throughout this time, there are still family members and other people around us to help us get through this time and support you financially. Its proving that even through hard times our local people still have the compassion to help even if they arent necessarily financially capable. Therefore building the childrens character and letting them know that they are growing up in a world that isnt perfect, its just your outlook on life that gets you through.
Not only is this a local and national issue, it also affects me personally. My providing parents both work at Sierra Pacific, and with people not building or buying houses, they are becoming slow. So right now its to where they can only work thirty-eight hour work week with no overtime. So it isnt to bad right now for me right now, but if we do not find a way out of this recession, it will greatly affect me. The only thing that is really hurting me right now is the unemployment rate and the amount of available jobs. Because being over sixteen, I need to find a way to provide me own source of income and not rely totally on my parents.
In the end, the things happening locally are also happening nationally. I think that we need to all come together and make this time better for everyone around us and hopefully get out of this tight spot. Which will help our nation become more of a united nation. It will build up everyones character to be hard working and very compassionate.

School-Real Life

In school, I learned that even though people are supposed to be just and fair; that most of the people are cruel and untrustworthy. I have always been a very trust worthy person and it has caught up with me. I can remember when we where in middle school and everyone seemed so innocent to me that i always just left my stuf at my desk and didnt worry too much about it. Well one day, after i had left all of my stuff in my desk i went out to break and i came back and my homework was gone. I didnt understand how it could just disappear, so i told me teacher and she let me look through everyones papers to try to find mine. And someone actually took my paper and changed the names. I found out that day not to trust everyone.

Another real life event that I have learned being in school is that the people who actually do the work dont always get praise. I have been apart of a lot of group projects that only a certain amount of people out of the group will do the work, yet the ones who didnt do the majority of the work get credit for it. I learned this early in my school days and discovered to pick the people in my group thinking about there work ethic. Therefore, everyone gets the credit they deserve. Also with this I learned that the people who look like they wont do work are the ones who like to do research.

I completely agree that school is like real life.

Hamlet

Hamlet is a person of exceptional insight and itelligence. Hamlet seems to be the type of guy who is always thinking of something to fix a problem. Even though his dad just died he still seems to think that he is always there, which shows that he is a very insightful person.
I dont think that hamlet is a lust for power. He is just trying to make up for his father dying and his uncle taking power. I really dont think that he wants to rule the kingdom he just wants it to be in order. He doesnt want a lot of drama, like his mom marrying his uncle.
